The Clerk's Office for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado has prepared this information to foster cooperation between the Court and the media for coverage of trials and hearings in the District.
The presiding judges are fully responsible for their courtrooms and expect the media to comply with terms they may specify. Accordingly, specific information and/or procedures concerning a trial or hearing may be issued or implemented by the judge presiding over the particular matter.
Members of the media should not contact a judge’s chambers or courtroom deputy clerk. Please instead contact the Clerk’s Office Administration Department at (720) 904-7303 or COBml_Admin@cob.uscourts.gov.
General Court Information
- Location/Hours: The Court is located in the U.S. Custom House. The building is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Please do not arrive more than 30 minutes for any scheduled hearing unless otherwise directed.
- Security: The U.S. Custom House is a secure government building. All entrants must present a valid government ID and will undergo standard security screening procedures.
- Photography, Broadcasting, Streaming Strictly Prohibited: Per Local Bankruptcy Rule 5073-1, the use or operation of any photography, recording, broadcasting, or streaming device is prohibited inside all courtrooms, office space occupied by Court employees, and all rooms used for meetings pursuant to 11 U.S.C. § 341, except as otherwise provided by the Judicial Conference. This Rule also applies to those participating in a hearing or meeting by telephone, video conference, or other means from outside the courtroom or meeting rooms. This Rule does not apply to Court employees, designees of the United States Trustee, or any certified court reporter acting pursuant to their official duties.
General Information for the Media
- Point of Contact: Kenneth S. Gardner, Clerk of Court, serves as the Court’s Public Information Officer. Please direct media inquires to the Clerk’s Office Administration Department at (720) 904-7303 or COBml_Admin@cob.uscourts.gov.
- Interviews: No interviews of any kind may be conducted inside the U.S. Custom House.
- Records: Court records are available through PACER (fees apply).
- Opinions: Opinions designated by a judge as written opinions will be made available without charge through PACER and the U.S. Government Printing Office.
- Audio recordings: Audio recordings of any public proceeding may be ordered online (fees apply). Please see Written Transcripts & Audio Recordings for more information.
- Transcripts: Written transcripts of any public proceeding may be obtained by contacting a transcriber from the list of Approved Transcribers (fees apply and are set by the Judicial Conference of the United States). Please see Written Transcripts & Audio Recordings for more information.
- Attending Hearings: Courtroom seating is generally available on a first come, first serve basis. The Clerk’s Office may arrange for overflow space as needed, though overflow spaces will only offer an audio feed.
- No Wi-Fi/Internet Access: The Court does not provide public Wi-Fi or internet access.
