Out of State Practitioners

Because out-of-state attorneys may be familiar with CM/ECF and may have received authorization to file documents electronically based on their experience and practice in other jurisdictions where CM/ECF and electronic filing has been implemented, the U. S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado would like to extend this benefit in the District of Colorado as well. Although completion of the District of Colorado's training class for electronic filing under CM/ECF will be waived for attorneys who already received equivalent training in another district, there are a few prerequisite requirements that must be met before the attorney is issued a login and password authorizing the electronic filing of documents in the District of Colorado.
To receive a login and password, out-of-state attorneys must comply with the following:
  • Be trained and authorized to file electronically in CM/ECF in another U. S. Bankruptcy Court jurisdiction;
  • Provide the ECF login name issued by another U.S. Bankruptcy Court jurisdiction;
  • Be admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado;
  • Complete and return to the Clerk an Electronic Filer Registration Form; and
  • Successfully complete a brief homework assignment.
  • If you wish to initiate an adversary proceeding/complaint electronically, additional training is required. Please click here to begin the process. This process can take up to 48 hours to complete.

If you are interested in becoming an electronic filer in Colorado, please send an e-mail containing name, address, bar id and state of issuance to so that we may send you an information packet which contains the required forms and homework assignment.
