Scammers are impersonating Bankruptcy Court employees and demanding payment through Zelle, Venmo, prepaid cards, or gift cards. These scammers may sound convincing and use your real personal information, mention Trustees, Court staff, and Federal Judges by name, and even “spoof” their phone number on caller ID to show as the Court or another government agency.
These phone calls are not from the Bankruptcy Court.
Do not provide callers with your personal information, credit card or bank account numbers, or any form of payment. Here are the facts:
- The Court will never demand payment by phone.
- The Court will never demand payment by Zelle, Venmo, prepaid card, or gift card.
- The Court only sends correspondence by mail or Notices of Electronic Filing via CM/ECF.
If you receive a suspicious call, please contact the Clerk’s Office at (720) 904-7300, or report it to Denver’s regional U.S. Trustee Program Office or the national U.S. Trustee Program’s bankruptcy fraud unit.
